    After 35 years of shooting a traditional spring driven shotgun, I thought it was time to try an inertia driven system that much of the hunting world has switched to. I began researching various manufacturers. Ultimately, I decided to go with the Retay Masai Mara 12 Gauge as my son had been shooting one for a few years and the company being based out of where I’m from. I was also able to speak with a master gunsmith that was able to explain the inertia a bit more. Specifically, the operation of the system and how Retay has solved what many refer to as the “Benelli Click” that other manufacturers with inertia systems have complications with. I’ve had the gun for a few months now and it has performed flawlessly. I have tried multiple different target loads while shooting clays. Through the early duck season, it has been great shooting the Hevi-Shot “Hevi-Hammer Chesapeake” loads with a mix of #5 Bismuth and #3 Steel. The gun shoulders excellent, with a great alignment from stock to barrel and comes with multiple shims for different size shooters. It also comes with five different ranges of choke tubes. When shooting the gun feels light, with minimal kick and swings well. I can’t recommend the Masai Mara enough. I look forwarded to trying more of the Retay options in the future.

    This is the best autoloader on the market. I took it to the most reputable gunsmith in my area and he said this gun is twice the quality of a benelli at less cost. The known Benelli flaws (point of aim and ‘Benelli click’) have been eliminated, and it is offered at a better price. The most user friendly field teardown I have ever seen in an autoloader. Great gun!
