“Dead Straight” Deep Bore Drilled Barrels™

The barrel on a Retay shotgun is made from a solid cylinder bar of 4140 steel which is drilled out, end-to-end, via a process called deep bore drilling. Deep bore drilling is a modern, more expensive process than the hammer forging process used by other manufacturers. Deep bore drilling doesn’t stress the barrel or affect the integrity of the barrel in any way and results in a stronger, extremely accurate, “Dead Straight” barrel.

This is also why Retay doesn’t have to cryogenically treat their barrels, a freezing process commonly used in an attempt to partially add back strength to imperfectly-straight, hammer-forged barrels.

Retay makes straight shooting shotguns with modern-day manufacturing like the deep bore drilling process in Retay’s own factory.

“Out of the Box” Factory Lengthened Forcing Cone™

One of the first things performance shotgun owners typically do with their new shotgun is to send it to a custom gun shop to get the forcing cone lengthened. The forcing cone is that area in a shotgun where the shot load exits the wider chamber and enters the narrower bore. This area is typically very steep and short which can create excessive friction and pellet deformation. 

At Retay, we factory lengthen (and polish) the forcing cone in every barrel we make which, by reducing friction, increases shot velocity and, by reducing pellet collision and deformation, increases pattern density. This means better shooting performance right out of the box without the need for aftermarket gunsmithing.

“Rollover” Torsion Spring Action™ The Retay Inertia Plus™ System

An extremely frustrating problem with the action on some inertia shotguns is the possibility of being jarred out of battery, a problem that can cost you shot opportunities. Retay’s exclusive “Inertia Plus” Bolt uses a patented “Rollover” internal torsion spring to forcefully rotate the bolt head into battery and keep it from ever being jarred out of battery. This system promotes quiet closing, practically eliminates bolt rattle and, most importantly, means virtually no more missed shot opportunities.

Patented “Two-Second” Push-Button Trigger Group Removal™

All Retay Masai Mara Models feature a unique Removable Trigger Group system that allows you to quickly and easily remove the entire trigger group at the push of a button. This allows for easy cleaning or servicing, and makes Retay the only semi-auto shotgun you can truly clean in the field. Removing the trigger from the gun disables it so it can no longer be fired, so storing the trigger separately is also an added in-home safety feature.

“Easy Out” Magazine Unloading™

Retay shotguns feature a clever magazine unloading system that allows the operator to empty shells easily, without cycling the bolt. Clear the chamber as you would any semi-auto shotgun, but to empty the magazine, simply turn the shotgun upside down so you are looking at the feed ramp. Push the front of the feed ramp toward the chamber, exposing the back of the shell in the magazine. Simply pull the bolt release outward from the receiver and the shell releases onto the bottom of the feed ramp.

Premium “Plastic-Free” Receiver, Trigger and Integrated Trigger Guard™

In an era when even high-end shotgun brands resort to using pressed plastic parts, Retay does not compromise. All of the components in a Retay receiver are made from milled aluminum including the alloy trigger group with the integrated trigger guard. This ensures long term performance and durability.

All-Natural, Unenhanced, “No Compromise” Turkish-Oiled Walnut Stocks™

Grain enhancement is a cleverly concocted name for a process that can be used by other shotgun manufacturers to hide imperfections in less-than-perfect wood. At Retay, we don’t need to hide imperfections because we don’t use wood with imperfections to begin with. Our “No Compromise” Turkish-oiled walnut stocks are all-natural and never grain-enhanced.

Premium“Black-Chrome”Barrel Finish (Walnut models)

Retay’s Black-Chrome-plated finish is a very hard and more durable barrel finish than the traditional bluing that is commonly used by other shotgun makers. While black chrome plating is more costly than traditional bluing, we use it because it is far more resistant to damage and provides a long-lasting, great-looking finish.
